This Snow Rising Faring Purth solo exhibition

Faring Purth moves from the open air canvas of the streets to gallery exhibition at Anno Domini for her debut solo show. Her hard upbringing, aggressive youth and her years of work in caring for the dying is permeated through the layers of meaning in her loose figurative visual imagery. The initial reaction upon viewing Purth’s paintings may be to think it grotesque in nature but that feeling quickly washes away as the beauty and dignity of these subjects surface when looking into their soulful eyes.

    Featuring live music by Shovelman.

Shovelman is a junkyard beatnik, a shovel guitar wielding surrealist folk superhero. Armed with a collection of pawnshop effects pedals and an old barn-shovel turned slide-guitar, Shovelman plays ol’ fashioned folktronica-grooves looped straight out of the ground. The sounds of Mississippi deltablues from the electro-psychedelic future, collide with the antiquated rubble of lyrical one-man-band hoboetry.

There will also be performances from a local San Jose dance troupe, Jewel of Opar, at 8pm, followed by a musical performance by our very own Sarah Jaye Quinley.

Demi Bamber is a local Morgan Hill artist, originally from the Great Northwest. Growing up between the San Juan Islands and the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, art has been a passion since a very young age and her Grandmother Betty helped her to explore many forms of it. Eventually she found herself in acrylics on canvas with heavy mediums. Many of the mediums used are things collected from nature such as bark, sand, dried flowers, among others. Many inspirations drive her art, such as people, their reactions and emotions. Creating pieces that can alter or change a mood in a positive way is one of the motives behind her art. She is inspired by things that move with grace such as vines or fish. Always feeling a connection with nature and lifestyles of native tribes, the tribal women she typically paints are portrayals of what she felt or saw while dreaming. A way of bringing the art to life is by using metallics and textures to create a depth that changes in every light. Currently she has been expanding her skills with various custom pieces and is constantly taking on new projects and growing as an artist.
