Artist Reception: “Prior Art” by Julie Meridian

Though digital media has brought in sweeping changes to art in the last two decades, artists have always pushed the technologies of their time to craft new realities. “Prior Art “ is a tour of analog media manipulation and vintage virtual reality celebrated in paintings and illustrations of the people, techniques, and artifacts that inspired the digital tools we know today.

Julie Meridian is drawn to the analog truth-seeking of creating studio art, and practices the digital world-shaping of UX design through her consultancy Make It Legit.

Artist Reception: “Momentum” by Mariya Milovidova

Momentum is the impulse of the moment. Every single artwork in this series was created in a moment of impulse. I believe that life is built on the golden and not so golden moments that we create and they bring us memories. We create our own individual moments that make our own present, past, and feature. In this collection of artworks I was trying to bring and show the feeling of living in the moment and the value of every moment that life brings us through one line technique as well as the line of movement that cannot be changes once it’s put on canvas. Here it becomes it’s own line with it’s own character and it’s own movement living in a moment.

Mariya Milovidova is an artist, a fashion designer and an entrepreneur. She has attracted celebrity clients from Hollywood to Bollywood, and been featured in fashion weeks from Paris to New York, to her base in San Francisco. She has turned heads in the fashion world, from her famous custom paintings put on silk dresses to technology inspired vests that light up to music, voices and, inevitably, applause. Contact her to find out more – and be prepared to find your next favorite piece.

    “Deconstructed Expression” by SCAPE Martinez

The work being shown chronicles my latest efforts in the art studio. Pulling away from solid forms, I step further into colorfield and abstract ideas. The work here, I believe, is a visual depiction of deep spiritual and philosophical concepts on full display for the viewer to interpret.

  • PhantomGalleries at The Pierce – 2 Pierce Ave. map

    pierce_renzel

Artist’s Reception: “Creatures and Wunderkammers” new works by Jenifer J Renzel in the lobby of the newly opened The Pierce Apartments in the SoFA District featuring live music by singer songwriter Lisa Dewey.

Renzel’s “Creatures and Wunderkammers” focuses on beings that never were. Come see the Huffelmump seek waffle bockers, examine miniature insect people from another planet, inspect the flying old gods from Lovecraft’s world. Can people and hardware be combined? Was there once a strange medical lab that provided ‘unique’ services to ‘unique’ patients? Come and see …

Jenifer Renzel is an assemblage artist and painter who learned her craft through trial and error and the mentoring of good friends. She has been creating assemblages for the past 12 years, developing a unique style that is both dark and whimsical. She loves broken down old things because of the stories they carry and the things they have seen. Jenifer began painting more recently after becoming interested in modern outsider-art.

    pierce_deweyLive music by Lisa Dewey at 8pm, 9pm & 10pm.

Lisa Dewey, San Jose, CA based artist and owner of the indie label Kitchen Whore Records, began playing live shows in 1990 and has since released 4 full-length albums, 2 CD Singles and a book. After playing solo for a few years, she formed a band to complete her ethereal pop sound. Lisa’s songs usually start out as folk songs, and then the band adds drums, bass and heavy melodic lead guitar to transform the songs into floaty pop. Lisa’s band features John Testani on drums, Paul Zimmerman on bass and Keith St. Thomas on lead guitar.

Apartment tours available upon request throughout the evening.

About the artist: Antonio Sarabia is a graphic artist, photographer and writer based out of Sacramento, California. He is a freelance designer who specializes in digital graphic art, serigraphy and photography. He mixes modern and traditional graphic art techniques, creating designs in pen and pencil, translating them to digital designs in Adobe Illustrator and back to prints through a serigraphy process. Pho69_Oct2016

“A Banal State of Mind” by Adrian Tsim

In this series, A Banal State of Mind, he explores everyday mundane subjects that are often overlooked and ignored, studying their lines, forms, details and textures. He enjoys capturing the sense of serenity through simplicity, symmetry and stillness. The images bring a soothing and mesmerizing effect to the minds of the audience. It also reflects the calmness and balance he strives in his life. He prefers the delicate diffused light, photographing in the early dawn before the sun has fully risen. The absence of human presence creates a sense of solitude and contemplation.

Adrian Tsim is a fine art photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the South Bay, he has a Bachelor Degree in Painting and Drawing from San Jose State University. He has studied photography at Foothill College and San Jose City College. On his free time, he’s a volunteer Photography Teacher’s Assistant at both colleges, helping students refine their technical skills in the darkroom. For the photographs he presented in this show, he worked with scanned medium format black and white negatives and digitally printed.
